ERA Wilder Supports One of Its Own and the Carolina Children's Home
Columbia, SC May 2008-In April of 1964 a very young couple was married; she was
18, he was 20. By August of 1969 they celebrated the birth of their 3
rd child. They were merely babies raising babies and by 1971 they were divorced.
They continued to struggle on many levels and, for whatever reasons, their 3 children
where placed with the Carolina Children’s Home (CCH) in February of 1974. At
the critical ages of 4, 5 and 8 these children spent the next 16 months in the
tender care of CCH which provided them with Faith, Hope, and Love while separated
from their mother and father.
This is the testimony of Rus Horton, Realtor with ERA Wilder Realty on in Downtown
Columbia. Rus, with the support of Eddie Wilder has launched one of the largest
ticket selling drives in the history of CCH. Under their encouragement, the 5
local ERA Wilder offices are getting involved by tapping into their spheres of
influence to raise donations and/or ticket sales to Carolina Children's Home’s
21st ANNUAL BBQ COOK-OFF FESTIVAL.
The BBQ Cook-Off Festival will be held at the SC State Fairgrounds, Gate 11 on
May 16 & 17, 2008. A longtime tradition, Friday’s Night “Save the Pigs” party
is the anything but pork event! For $8 a ticket or 2 for $15, enjoy music by
the Sensational Epics and taste-test over 40 Southern specialties prepared by cooking teams from across
the southeast. Food is served from 7-10 p.m. and beverages are available for
purchase.
On Saturday, join the Home from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. as the judges decide on this
year’s BBQ champions. BBQ plates are $8 at the door or $7 if purchased in advance,
and kids 11 and under eat for $3. Enjoy stage performances by local children’s
groups; make crafts in the kids area with Palmetto Parent, bounce in the bounce
house and have tons of family fun with great food!
Rus speaks from his own experience stating, “The Carolina Children’s Home is
a beautiful cause and your support and involvement will go a long way to provide
for children in desperate need of Faith, Hope, and Love” To purchase advance
tickets for either event, or to make a donation, please contact any of your 5
